Settling in for the fall in Maine.

Living room at Ledgerock

I have been coming to Maine since 1960.  I remember the day
we arrived via Eastern Airlines from louisiana.  I got out of the
plane in Bangor (in those days the terminal was a quonset hut)
and  I was knocked over by the smell of pine (balsam specifically).
The air was cool and clean.  I'd never experienced anything
like it.  I remember turning to my father and saying that I never
wanted to go back to Mississippi where we'd spent previous
summers fighting off mosquitos and wilting in the heat.  My
father must have felt the same way, as we we've continued to
make the pilgrimage north to Maine ever since.  For years we
rented and in 1970 my parents decided to by Ledgerock.
