Sir John Lavery was born in Belfast and studied in Paris
and Glasgow. He spent most of his life in England as a
society painter. I am sort of lukewarm about most of
his portraits but am rather fond of this one. Not sure who the sitter is.
His self portrait is a doozie. I think he is quite enamored
of his university finery. Actually he reminds me a little bit of
a dentist I once had...
